STARFORGED ADVENTURES

A Solo RPG Gameplay Blog

About This Site

I was in fourth grade when I saw the first Star Wars movie in the theaters, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since. Having been introduced to D&D in the summer after 7th grade, I’ve also been a longtime RPG gamer, mostly doing play by post and solo these days.

Over the years, I’ve found that solo RPG not only works well for my random schedule and lifestyle, it provides me with an immersive and satisfying type of creative experience that really excites and motivates me.

Driving the past five years, I’ve mostly used Tana Pigeon’s fantastic Mythic Game Master Emulator for my solo gaming. I love the randomness of using “Oracles” to lead and inspire the story in often surprising ways, but I also like adhering to at least somewhat of a dedicated rule system to provide the general framework of the game.

I recently discovered Ironsworn: Starforged, an amazing new game by Ironsworn creator Shawn Tomkin that’s based around story-driven mechanics, an interesting campaign setting and a huge array of creative prompts and oracles that are highly tailored for solo play.

The theme of Ironsworn: Starforged is that you are a spaceborne hero sworn to undertake perilous quests, explore uncharted space, unravel the secrets of a mysterious galaxy, and build bonds with those you meet on your travels. It’s heavily influenced by popular settings and stories like Star Wars/Mandalorian, Firefly, Blade Runner, etc… and the relatively light game mechanics are very much influenced by Mythic and other oracle-based games.

That info was all I needed to dive in and give Starforged a look, and once I did, I was instantly hooked. I began a solo campaign and have absolutely fallen in love with the immersive solo creativity the game offers.

In addition, I’ve been enjoying some of the user generated Starforged content out there, where people basically play and narrate their games. One of my favorites is Matt Risby’s excellent A Bad Spot YouTube channel. With this in mind, I figured I’d put my own gameplay out there for others to enjoy.

I’m the kind of solo RPG-er who likes to write out the entire narrative like a novel, so on this site, I’ll post the detailed narrative of my own Ironsworn: Starforged campaigns, in part for my own creative satisfaction, but also for your enjoyment if you happen to come by and check it out.

In addition to the actual story, I’ll also include most of the game mechanics that help drive the story, which can help new players figure out how the game works in a solo setting.

I hope you enjoy reading these adventures, and if you want to give the game a try, definitely visit the Ironsworn: Starforged site for more info.

You can begin reading the adventure here at Episode 0, or wherever you left off last time.

See you in The Forge.
